View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Jewell White Scott, 84, resident of Winding Way, died Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Vann officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 5 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late J. Polk White and Jewell Isom White and was a 1947 graduate of Central High School. On July 23, 1950 she married Joe Hagey Scott who preceded her in death November 15, 2008. Mrs. Scott retired as Secretary for the Engineering Department at Union Carbide after forty-two years of employment. She served as County Commissioner of the 1st District and was a member of the Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, a member of the Wednesday Morning Bridge Club and a former member of the Red Hats and Central High School Band Boosters. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Marvanne Scott (Thomas) Baker of Primm Springs; nieces, Marcia Hughes, Pat Taylor and Mary Jean Webb all of Columbia, Linda Riddle of Hendersonville, Kathy Powell of Sheridan, Wyoming, Molly Omo of Chandler, Arizona; nephew, Tommy White of Pegram; numerous great nieces and great nephews; several great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and special caregiver, Carrie Pendergast. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Horace D. White, Raymond White and Marvin T. White. Active pallbearers will be Mike Prince, Tommy White, Buddy Bass, Billy Hugh Link, Herman Overcash, James R. Coston, Dow Carmack, Tim Napier and Dr. B.I. Naddy. Honorary pallbearers include David Wise, Shelby Carpenter, J.B. Napier, Joe Foster, Dr. Bob Wilhite, Tom Hardin, Judge Bobby Sands, Charles Tisher, Judge Robert Jones, Dr. Gibran Naddy, Dr. Lucy Ledbetter, members of the Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and members of the Wednesday Morning Bridge Club.
