Mr. James "Jim" Walter Young, 67, resident of Valley Creek Road in Culleoka, died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with his dear friend Allen "Ziggy" Roberts officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 12 noon until time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Old Orchard Cemetery. Born on February 24, 1946 at his home place in Culleoka, he was the son of the late Jack Young and Lota Louise Metkiff Young. He was a 1964 graduate of Culleoka High School and attended Freed Hardeman College. Jim worked for CSX Railroad from April 1969 through May of 1993 as a signalman until he retired and had previously worked for Firestone and Dupont. He loved music and played the piano and guitar. He was always getting together with his family and friends to make music. He was also a good mechanic and enjoyed working with his lifelong friend, Jimmy White. On February 23, 1999 he married the love of his life, Janice Faylene Young and they had fifteen wonderful years together. He was raised in the Church of Christ with his mother by his side as she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Jim was a loving person with a kind heart. Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, David Young of Stiversville, Roxanne Cook of Shelbyville, Paul B. Baxter of Culleoka, John Polly of Lewisburg and Anthony Polly of Culleoka; grandchildren, Amber Nicole Nichols, Candace Danielle Mcelyea; great grandchild, Damian Woods; and his brother whom he loved dearly, Sherbert (Harriette) Young of Memphis. He was preceded in death by a son, James Terry Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy White, Keith Cook, Malcolm Williams, Steve McKee, David Riley, Tommy Baxter, Ronald Cates and Joe Garrett.
