View Video Tribute Jimmy Howard Bassham, 78, Columbia businessman and resident of Mariner Drive, died Thursday, August 6, 2015 at NHC Columbia. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 12:00 P.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Judge Bobby Sands officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 10:00 - 11:30 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Henry Edward Bassham and Nannie Frizzell Bassham. He was a 1956 graduate of Hay Long High School and served in the U. S. Army from 1957 - 1959. Mr. Bassham owned and operated McBride's Grocery and Columbia Masonry. He was a member of the Columbia Elks Lodge and Columbia Fraternal Order of Police. Possessing a contagious smile, Mr. Bassham enjoyed life and had an entertaining sense of humor. Survivors include his son, Michael (Missy) Bassham of Culleoka; grandchildren, Gabriel Bassham, U S Marine Corps. Paris Island, SC, Reid Bassham of Spring Hill, Crews Bassham and Ryder Bassham, both of Culleoka; sister, Joyce (David) Hughes of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, William "Pete" (Judy) Bassham of Niceville, Florida; Tommy (Loretta) Bassham and David "Boo Boo" (Vicki) Bassham, both of Columbia; special friend, Paula Dooley; and devoted caregiver, Maria Fuller. He was preceded in death by a son, Bart Bassham; sisters, Bettye Cornwell, Jane Peden, and Sue Plew; and brother, Charles Bassham. Active pallbearers will be Judge Jim T. Hamilton, Edward Yarber, Ronald Bailey, Ed Lee, H. Tom Wilson, and Todd Heard. Honorary pallbearers will include Devin & Keeley Farmer, Edgar & Scottie Deason, James & Jeanette Richardson, Dr. Ralph Stone, Don Alderson, Barry Crotzer, Wade Matheny, Frank McBride, Ricky Bishop, Ronnie Richardson, Joe & Sue Horne, Rudy & Nell Turner, Alison Farmer, Garrison Farmer, members of Columbia Elks Lodge, members of Columbia Fraternal Order of Police, members of The Shop, and members of the1956 graduating class of Hay Long High School.
