Jimmy Langsdon

James David "Jimmy" Langsdon, 49, president and co-owner of Columbia Machine Works in Columbia and CMW/NABRICO in Gallatin, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:30 P.M. at West Seventh Street Church of Christ with Wendell Robinson and Taft Ayers officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 and Friday from 12:30 - 1:30 P.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. The Maury County native was the son of Bonnie Strong Langsdon of Columbia and the late John Kinnard "J.K." Langsdon, Jr. Jimmy was educated at Riverside Elementary School, Whitthorne Junior High School and graduated from Central High School in 1982. He attended Columbia State Community College one year before transferring to Tennessee Technology University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1987. At the age of 16, Jimmy began working at Columbia Machine Works after school and during the summer breaks which he continued doing throughout his college career. Upon his graduation, he began working full time for Columbia Machine works, Inc. and has served as President for ten years. Following in his father's footsteps, Jimmy was very civic minded. In 1987, he was inducted into the Columbia Rotary Club where he was selected a Paul Harris fellow, had served as Pancake Day Chairman, was President of the Columbia Noon Rotary Club, and served on the Board of Directors. Jimmy was also active in the Boy Scout Program, having earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award from the Middle Tennessee Council Boy Scouts of America and Long Rifle Award from Duck River District Boy Scouts of America. He had served as the District Chairman for the Duck River District and was a member of the Executive Board for the Middle Tennessee Council. He had served as Scout Master for Troop 103. Jimmy was a past president and member of Nashville Chapter of National Tooling and Machining Association. He had served on the Board of Crime Stoppers, served as Chairman of Maury Alliance, served on the Board of United Way, and served on the Advisory Board of First Farmers & Merchants Bank. He was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. An avid outdoorsman, Jimmy enjoyed sailing, backpacking, diving, and snow skiing. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Tiffany Poulton Langsdon of Columbia; sisters, Valerie (Randall) Wilson of Columbia; Rosemarie Overstreet of Columbus, GA; brothers, John Kinnard (Melissa) Langsdon, III of Columbia; Joseph (Maria) Langsdon of Brentwood; nieces and nephews, Meleia Wilson (Taft) Ayers, Mark (Sarah) Wilson, Suzanne Wilson (Jeff) Gillis, John Langsdon Overstreet, Rebecca Overstreet, Paul Overstreet, John Kinnard "Jake" Langsdon, IV, Andrew Langsdon, Margaret Langsdon (Shane) Polivka, William Langsdon, Abigail Langsdon, Melize Yilmaz, Sezen Yilmaz; great niece and great nephews, Wyatt Ayers, Marley Ayers, Brantley Gillis; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Annette & Richard Poulton of Lebanon; and brother-in-law, Jim Poulton of Lebanon. He was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Barbara Poulton Habibi. Active pallbearers will be Mike Parrott, Chris Cramer, Matthew White, Tom Schiller, Ray White, Barry Beck, Tom DuBois, and Brad Wauford. Honorary pallbearers will be former and present employees of Columbia Machine Works, fellow Columbia Noon Rotary members, and former and present members of Boy Scout Troop 103.
