Mr. Jimmy Wayne Palmer, 61, resident of Scott Hollow Road in Culleoka, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Eddie Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A native of Lawrence County, Mr. Palmer was the son of Edith Glen McMullin Palmer of Columbia and the late Brady Wilburn Palmer. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Palmer was former Head Butcher at Piggly-Wiggly and McBride's Grocery. He was affectionately known as Uncle Jack and PawPaw Jack and he loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of the Baptist Church. In addition to his mother he is survived by his longtime companion Louise Lee Crick of Culleoka; three children Stephanie (Dan) Keele of Paris, Kelly (Mike) Woodard of Mt. Pleasant, Jimmy Wayne (Stephanie) Palmer, Jr. of Culleoka; brother Mac (Debbie) Palmer of Columbia; sister Brenda (Kerry) Hightower of Columbia; seven grandchildren Aaron Keele, Brendon Keele, Amber Shipp, Hallie Shipp, Emma Claire Woodard, Will Palmer, Meagan Palmer; two nieces Michelle Sullivan and Shannon Gray; one nephew Jason Palmer; and also survived by Leanne Crick and "Maggie". Pallbearers will be Dan Keele, Mike Woodard, Ed Lee, Wayne Crick, Brett Szostek, T.J. Hendrix, Eddie Anderson and Steve Harville. Honorary pallbearers include the staff of Maury Regional Medical Center Cardiac Unit.
