Joan Phillips Vaughn, 77, affectionately known as "Granny," long-time resident of the Scribner's Mill Community, died Friday, September 5, 2014 at her home on Scribner's Mill Road. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Bryan Basham officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late J. R. Phillips and Minnie Lee Skinner Phillips. She married Paul Perry Vaughn in October of 1953. Their 40-year marriage ended with his death February 19, 1994. Mrs. Vaughn spent her adult life as a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, loved collecting hats, and tending to her flowers and garden. Active in community activities, she made numerous sunshine baskets for shut-ins and was a member of the Singing Volunteers, spending many hours bringing the joy of music to those in nursing homes, senior expos, and other places. A devoted member of Scribner's Mill Church of Christ, she taught children's Sunday School Classes for many years and provided flowers for the Auditorium during worship services. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (David) Edmiston of Culleoka; sons, Jim (Ginger) Vaughn of Chattanooga and Chris (Jane) Vaughn of Lewisburg; sisters, Pearl (Tony) Berry of Columbia and Mary Alice Shahnazarian of Surfside Beach, South Carolina; grandchildren, Sarah (Brandon) Kuck, Alex (Jaime) Vaughn, Mary Carlie (Braun) Corbitt and Tory Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Haven Edmiston, JoAnna Edmiston, and A. J. Vaughn; several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are Alex Vaughn, Braun Corbitt, Brandon Kuck, Jerry Vaughn, Tony White, Dale Craig, and Tony Endsley. Honorary pallbearers include members of Scribner's Mill Church of Christ, the Singing Volunteers, Jean and Charles Vaughn, Frank James, Jimmy Williams, and Brian Hastings.
