MR. JOE M. GROSSMANMr. Joseph Morris "Joe" Grossman, 76, retired owner of Grossman Jewelers in Shady Brook Mall and Ray Jewelery Company on the Public Square for forty-six years, died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at his residence on Graymere Manor Road.Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 12:00 Noon at Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bill Williamson officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Memorials may be made to Hope House of Columbia or the Maury County Animal Shelter. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.A native of Nashville, he was the son of the late Henry Grossman and Etta Rothstein Grossman and attended Vanderbilt University. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific Theatre of Operation during World War II. Mr. Grossman was active in civic and community affairs including the Columbia Kiwanis Club, Maury County Chamber of Commerce, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 and Graymere Country Club.Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Luna Grossman of Columbia; three daughters, Cathey Grossman of Nashville, Terri (Dr. Robert) Barrack of New Orleans, Louisiana and Patti (Hank) Faulder of New Orleans; two grandsons, Adam Barrack and Toby Barrack of New Orleans; a sister, Sara (Howard) Sturm of Los Angeles, California; a brother, Dr. Laurence Grossman of Nashville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Milton Grossman.Active pallbearers are William B. West, W. H. Pigg, Raymond Hamilton, Aubrey Nelson, David Locke and David McClain. Honorary pallbearers include member of the Columbia Kiwanis Club and the Old Gents of Graymere "OGOGs."
