View Funeral WebcastMr. Joe Thomas Talley, 80, former owner and operator of Talley Electric Company, died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Wendell Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 9:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. The Lewis County native was the son of the late Bashie Thomas Talley and Ora Edwards Talley. He was married to Margaret Hughes Talley who preceded him in death on January 28, 2013. Mr. Talley was a 1951 graduate of Lewis County High School and received a Bachelor Degree in Engineering in 1959 from Vanderbilt University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War and was a Master Mason. Mr. Talley was an accomplished electronics enthusiast. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid Vanderbilt sports fan. He was a longtime member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Stephen (Jeanne) Talley of Spring Hill; Terry (Tessa) Talley of Cane Ridge, Tennessee; and one grandson, John Thomas Talley of Spring Hill. Active pallbearers will be Thomas R. Taylor, Sr., James "Jimmy" Couch, Dr. Robert Wilhoite, Sr., Paul Hirsch, Thomas R. Taylor, Jr., and Bruce Hickerson. Honorary pallbearers include James R. "Jimmy" Hurt, Claude Bates, Ray Brewer, Roger & Pam Workman, Roy Cathey, and Joe Delk.
