Joe Thomas Winchester, 86, retired supervisor for thirty-four years at Union Carbide Corporation and resident of Fry Branch Road in the Lynnville Community, died Friday, August 12, 2011 at Life Care of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Tony Brown and Johnny D. Ring officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The Maury County native was the son of the late John Winchester and Minnie Reese Winchester. In 1946 he married the former Lillian Holland who preceded him in death in 2001. He was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church. Survivors include daughters, Josephine (Jerry) Blocker and Claire (Ronnie) Riggins, both of Columbia; sisters, Bessie Heithcock of Franklin and Betty (Donald) Lunn of Columbia; brother, James (Katie) Winchester of Columbia; grandchildren, David (Sabrina) Blocker, Jeffrey (Theresa) Riggins, and Jason (Tammy) Riggins, all of Columbia; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Nannie Ring, Annie Winchester, and Mattie Winchester; brothers, John Winchester, William Winchester, and Charles Winchester; and nephews, Billy Winchester and Jimmy Heithcock. Pallbearers are Charlie Winchester, Charlie Ring, Johnny D. Ring, Johnny Ring, Jr., Kenny Heithcock, and Tommy Heithcock.
