Mr. John Rowe Alderson, 65, resident of Rosewood Drive and former longtime resident of Nashville, died Monday, October 28, 2013 in Columbia. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Neapolis Cemetery with Alan Trammell officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1 - 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, 2790 Pulaski Highway, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Donald Paul Alderson and Gladys Langsdon Alderson. He was a 1966 graduate of Central High School and after graduation he joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era and served on the U.S.S. Enterprise. During his military service he obtained his pilot's license and part of his duties included searching for enemy submarines. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1972, he started Studio Supply Company in Nashville that designed and supplied equipment for recording studios. After many years of owning and operating Studio Supply Company, he sold the company and pursued his career as an executive pilot for Spandek Corporation in Franklin followed by several years as a self-employed pilot based out of Smyrna. He was an avid golfer, loved airplanes, and was proud of his military service. He was an active member of First Baptist Church where he enjoyed the Bible studies that were so important in his life. Survivors include his son, Nathan Rowe (Hannah) Alderson of Huntsville, Alabama; daughter, Bailey Ann (Adam) Long of Huntsville, AL; former wife, Charlotte Bone Alderson of Columbia; and brother, Don (Paulette) Alderson of Columbia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
