View Funeral WebcastMr. John Thomas "Tom" Jones, 83, co-owner of A.B. Jones & Sons Auto Sales and resident of Kinzer Lane, died Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Signature Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eastside Church of Christ with Jack White and Tom Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Wednesday from 1p.m. until time of service at the church. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late A.B. Jones and Thelma Louise Jones Jones. He was a graduate of Columbia Central High School. On September 20, 1947 he married Georgene Andrews Jones who preceded him in death on March 12, 2005. He was very active in softball and coached the A.B. Jones Men's and Women's teams and the Eastside Church of Christ softball team for many years. He was an avid fisherman and was actively involved in the Columbia Dam Project. Mr. Jones was instrumental in the development of Columbia Academy as a Christian School. He was a member of Eastside Church of Christ where he served as an elder for several years. Survivors include two daughters, Deana Jones, Debbie (Donnie) Boshers both of Columbia; two brothers, Bill (Peggy) Jones of Culleoka, Larry (Freda) Jones of Columbia; two sisters, Elaine Whitehead of Columbia, Norma (Ronald) Boyette of Shelbyville; six grandchildren, Jeremiah Jones, Cody Jones, Trenton Jones, Tyler Boshers, Peyton Boshers, Bailey Boshers; one great-grandson, Bryson Jones; and a daughter-in-law, Wanda Jones of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Jones, two sisters, Evelyn Rowland, Ruth Hardison and a brother, Hazel Jones. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all former softball players.
