Mr. Joseph Dunaway Viar, 61, resident of Hillcrest Avenue, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12:00 noon at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday after 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to King's Daughters' School, 412 West Ninth Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.Joe was born February 15, 1954 in Columbia, the son of the late DeWitt R. Viar and Frances Kerley Viar. He attended Columbia Military Academy, graduated from Central High School in 1972 and attended U.T. Martin. Joe worked for Sterchi Furniture Company in Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida. For the past several years he was employed at Harris Teeter Grocery in Brentwood. He was a member of West End Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughters, Bethany (Matthew) Moss of Brentwood, Jennifer Bridge of Columbia; grandson, Wyatt Bridge of Columbia; brother, Jim (Donna) Viar of Cookeville; nephew, Don (Ashley) Viar of Cookeville; niece, Cheri Viar of Nashville; and several great nieces. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucinda Viar. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
