Mrs. Josephine Schutz Lassett, age 93, of Fairhope, Alabama, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in Columbia, Tennessee in the Bridge, an assisted living facility. She was born June 24, 1922 in Creighton on a dairy farm in what is now Mobile, Alabama. Josephine was a registered nurse retried from 30 years with the Veterans Administration. Jo worked at Veterans Hospitals in Gulfport, MS, North Little Rock, AR where she was the assistant Chief Nurse, and retired from the Shreveport, LA hospital. She completed her RN training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, a BS in nursing from the University of New Orleans, and an MS in Counseling from the University in Southern Mississippi. Jo was a retired Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve and did active duty during the Cuban Crisis in 1961-1962. She also served many Southern Baptist Churches as a pastor's wife in AR, MS, LA, and AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend George W. Lassett, in 2015 in Fairhope. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Bill Schutz, of Atlanta, GA and her sister, Mary Ellen Faust, of Paris, IL. She is survived by her son, Bill Lassett and her daughter, Deborah (Greg) Duncan; five grandchildren, Josh (Jennie) Lassett, Sarah (Scott) Munson, Leah Law, Natalie (Kacey) Duncan, and Emily (Bob) Peters; five great grandchildren, Grace Lassett, Brianna Law, Peyton Law, Graham Peters, and Grayson Munson; a nephew, Richard Faust, and a niece, Nancy Schutz Garry. A memorial service will be held for the family at Alabama Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama where she will be buried by her husband.
