View Video Tribute View Funeral WebcastJudith Elaine Pogue King, 79, former teacher, James K. Polk Home docent, and state PTA president, died Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Maury Regional Medical Center following a long struggle against cancer and resulting pulmonary fibrosis. Her funeral will be at West 7th Church of Christ, Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., followed by burial at Worley Cemetery, near where she was born. Jerry Elder, Randy Owens, John Dale, and David Bell will officiate. Visitation will be Monday, November 3, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Oakes and Nichols. Her survivors include husband of 56 years, Porter King, and their children, Jeff King, his wife Janet, Angeline Gaddy, Beth Swanson, her husband Kris, and Kirk King. Her sister, Carnice White, sister-in-law, Bettie Pogue, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces survive her. She leaves 12 grandchildren, Molly Grace and her husband, Nick, Allie, Patrick, Whittney, Bradley, Callie, Caleb, Evan, Kit, Will, Caroline, and Clara. She leaves her many brothers and sisters at West 7th Church of Christ, and her friends in Columbia and across the state and nation. Roy Pogue, former Maury County Court Clerk, and Hilda Kirk Pogue were her parents. Her brother, Douglas Pogue,also preceded her in death. She leaves many relatives of her close, loving family of Kirks and Pogues. She graduated at Columbia Central High School, 1953, Freed-Hardeman College, 1955, and David Lipscomb College, 1957. In addition to teaching in Columbia, she taught in Illinois and at Freed-Hardeman, as well as tutoring adults in Columbia. Her fondest work was teaching classes at West 7th church. Family members will serve as pallbearers. The family expresses deep appreciation to the CCU Nursing Staff at Maury Regional Medical Center for their care and concern during her illness.
