Julia Gerald Grant Prentice, 85, long-time resident of the Culleoka Community, died Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Life Care of Columbia. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery with Ed Murphy officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Notes of condolence may be extended at oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late W.Y.C. Grant and Ruby Parker Grant and a member of Bethel Church of Christ. She married John Allen Prentice February 21, 1947. Their 42-year marriage ended with his death October 6, 1995. Mrs. Prentice worked as a nurse technician at Hillview Health Care and later as a home health nurse for several years. She loved being a homemaker and working in her flowers. An excellent cook, she always wanted to be sure her family and friends got enough to eat and set a bountiful table. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (William) Thompson of Culleoka; grandchildren, Julia (Pete) Herpy of Tullahoma, Brian Thompson of Culleoka, and Michael (Elisha) Thompson of Mt. Pleasant; great-grandchildren, Ellen Thompson and Owen Herpy of Tullahoma, Brenten Shepherd, Zachery Shepherd, and Nathan Shepherd, all of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Rosemary Grant Abshire of Iredale, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Evelyn Grant Agnew, Helen Grant Byrd, Patricia Ann Veghlen; and brother, William Parker Grant. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
