Mr. Julian Sharp, 82, retired from Occidental Chemical Co. and resident of Old Highway 99, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Judge Bobby Sands and Darrell Trimble officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. On May 8, 1953 he married Rose Marie Jones Sharp of Columbia who survives. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Sharp was always busy. He loved life, farming, churchwork and his family. He was an active member of Berea Church of Christ. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sharp is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Gary) Ligon of Columbia; sons, Jerry (Debbie) Sharp and Stephen Sharp both of Columbia, Tim Sharp of Hermitage; four grandchildren, Bethany Ligon (fiance, Dr. Ryan House), Savannah Sharp, Todd Sharp, Ashley (Scotty) West; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Thompson, Reese Sharp, Emery Ligon, Allison West, Shane West; sister-in-law, Sue Jones; brother-in-law, Edwin Derryberry; and special friends, Preston Bolton and Derek Dawson. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Ligon; sisters, Frances Davis, Martha Derryberry; and brothers, L.E. Sharp and Alton Sharp. Active pallbearers will be Tyler Thompson, Scotty West, Ryan House, Jason Dodson, Bobby Bobo, Alfred Haywood, Dwight Groves and Joe Trimble. Honorary pallbearers include Doyle and Sandy Collins, Morris Johnson, Billy Gunnells, Bobby and Elva Jean Payne, Steve Parks, Jim Parks, Billy and Wilda Moore, Ray & Debbie Holcomb, Van Brown, Robert Fox, John and Angela Crutcher, Bill and Lucille Hinkle, Mike Gibson, Evan Gooch and the men of Berea Church of Christ.
