Mrs. June Evans Stockard Caperton, 81, died Friday, February 26, 2016 at her residence on Nashville Highway. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Steve Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Born June 26, 1934 in Cocke County, Tennessee she was the daughter of the late John Hal Evans and Sue Ella Wood Evans. She volunteered with the Columbia Girl Scouts and was awarded the Thanks Badge by the Cumberland Valley Girl Scouts Council, in recognition for her outstanding service, and a former volunteer for Maury Regional Hospital. An avid antique collector and accomplished cross stitcher, she worked for Accents & Antiques until January 2016. She was very devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. Mrs. Caperton was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include her son, Scotty Hal Stockard of Columbia; daughter, Johnette (Tony) McKey of Florence, Alabama; step daughter, Darlene Stockard Attaway of Sanford, Florida; step son, John (Shirley) Stockard, III of Gainesville, Florida; sister, Dottie (Virgil) Whitehead of Bonita Springs, Florida; grandchildren, Captain Jon Cameron Richardson of Florence, Alabama, and Sara Richardson of Nashville; special friend and caregiver, Esther Gowder of Columbia; brother-in-law, Sam (Doris) Caperton of Santa Fe; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Caperton Berry of Columbia. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husbands, John F. Stockard, Jr. and James Christopher "J.C." Caperton; daughter, Tandie Lee Stockard; and brother, Bobby Evans. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Harris, Dr. Jim Harris, Dennis Gowder, Randy Dooley, Jeff Dooley, Mike Webster, Zack Caperton, and Brian Reesor. Honorary pallbearers include Sam Caperton, Brian Caperton, Earl Robinson, Tommy Dooley, Frank Church, and Hal Boaz.
