Mrs. June Burks Jackson Geny, 89, died Monday, July 13, 2009 at The Blakeford at Green Hills. Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Bill Williamson officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Burton Court at The Blakeford, 11 Burton Hills Blvd., Nashville, Oakes & Nichols Funeral Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Dyersburg, TN she was the daughter of the late Harry Black Burks and Novella Ramsey Burks. She was first married to Robert Charles Jackson, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1976 and later married Charles "Willie" Geny who preceded her in death in 1999. She was a 1941 graduate of Vanderbilt University where she earned a B.A. degree in French. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Soriety. Mrs. Geny was active in many community organizations including The Centennial Club, Vanderbilt Aid Society, Ladies Hermitage Association, James K. Polk Memorial Association and House & Garden Club. She was an avid golfer and a member of Belle Meade Country Club and the Nashville Women's Golf Association. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Jackson of Columbia; son, Robert C. (Beverly) Jackson, Jr. of Pensacola, Florida; two step-daughters, Gail Geny Edwards of Franklin, Ellen Geny (Richard) Smogur of Rockvale; step-son, William O. (Denise) Geny of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren, Lawrie Wiesman (Chris) Booth of McLean, Virginia, Linden Wiesman (Gregg) Ryan of Middleburg, Virginia, Robert C. Jackson, III of Austin, Texas, Keith (Allison) Jackson of Knoxville; one great-grandchild, John Ryan of Middleburg, VA; three brothers, Bill (Ruth) Burks of Rochester, New York, Paul (Marcie) Burks of Santa Rosa, California, Ramsey Burks of Atlanta, Georgia; eight step-grandchildren, Charles Edwards, Patrick Edwards, Jennifer Edwards, Rachael Smogur, Andrew Smogur, Travis Geny, Dalton Geny, Justin Geny; and devoted friend, Dana Copen. She was preceded in death by brothers, Harry Burks, Jr. and Edward Burks; and sister, Rosalie Burks Wright.
