Katherine "Katie" Thornton Garrison, 88, retired employee of Third National Bank and former resident of Turpin Circle, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at NHC Columbia. A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville with John Vaughan officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born April 25, 1926 in Nashville, she was the daughter of the late Jasper McCree Thornton and Dora Sweeney Thornton. On October 3, 1958 she married Duval Garrison who preceded her in death on May 26, 1997. She was a 1944 graduate of East High School in Nashville. Mrs. Garrison worked for over twenty years keeping children in her home. She was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Edward Blair (Paula) Garrison and John Allen Garrison and his special friend Shelia Layne, all of Columbia; devoted friends, Thomas Burns and his parents Jay and Sharon Burns; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard Thornton and Luther Thornton; and sisters, Louise Evans, Lorene Daniels, Jeannie Chambers. Pallbearers will be Jay Burns, Thomas Burns, Paul Thornton, Terry Thornton, Ralph Chambers, John Westfield, Steve Westfield, and Rick Westfield.
