Kenneth Fail

July 20, 1931 — October 18, 2014

Kenneth Edward Fail, age 83, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, died peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2014 under Avalon Hospice care. The memorial service will be conducted Friday, October 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Northside Baptist Church in Murfreesboro with Pastor Ken Polk officiating. The graveside service will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Columbia at 2:30 p.m. with sons-in-law, Rev. John Hunsucker and Rick Malone, officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. at Northside Baptist Church. Ken was the son of the late Emma Belle Wyndham of Jacksonville, Florida and the late Robert Odell Fail of Mobile, Alabama. Ken grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, attended Jacksonville University, and served in the United States Air Force in Okinawa and at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. After the service, he became an Operations Agent for Eastern Airlines followed by working as a Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Controller for 24 years in Memphis, Tennessee and Longmont, Colorado until retirement.Ken enjoyed traveling with his wife, Doris, in their RV, fishing, target practice, airplanes, being a Ham radio operator, and spending time with his family. Ken did volunteer work with Bible Tracts, Inc. of Bloomington, Illinois and enjoyed attending monthly Concord Baptist Association meetings. He served as a Head Deacon and Deacon in several churches throughout his life, and was an active member of Northside Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, TN serving in the Safety Ministry and as a member of the Emmaus Sunday School Class. For more than twelve years, Ken and Doris worked with their daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Rick Malone, helping in Phil Waldrep Ministries conferences.Ken is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Johnson Fail (originally from Columbia), and three daughters, DeeAnn Hunsucker (John) of Arlington, WA, Dr. Susan Heiser of Murfreesboro, and Lisa Malone (Rick) of Murfreesboro. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jessica Williams of Murfreesboro, Jeffrey Snyder of Seattle, WA, Zach Maxfield of Murfreesboro, Jenae Knudson of Lake Stevens, WA, Jenna Maxfield of Murfreesboro, and Kelly Malone of Franklin, and three great grandchildren, Carter Williams and Reese Williams of Murfreesboro, and Avery Knudson of Lake Stevens, WA. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Lois Dugger of Culleoka, JoAnn Walker (James) of Murfreesboro, and brother-in-law, C.T. Johnson of Columbia. Pallbearers will be members of the Northside Baptist Church Safety Ministry: Dana Yancey, Chet Brace, Mike Allen, Charles Spurlock, Will Davis, and Robert Smartt, and family members: C.T. Johnson, James Walker, Rick Malone, John Hunsucker, Zach Maxfield, Jeff Snyder, Rob Parrish, and Jimmy Dugger.The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Tina Gresham and Pat Phillips, RN, and the staff of Avalon Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northside Baptist Church (Murfreesboro, TN) or to Phil Waldrep Ministries (www.philwaldrep.org).
