View Funeral WebcastMr. Knox Davis Surles, 82, retired from Lee-Mar Shirt Company, farmer, and resident of Mere Drive, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Elsey officiating. Burial will follow in Giles Memory Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 900 West 7th St., Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Giles County native was the son of the late Lee Roy Surles, Sr. and Della Davis Surles. He was a graduate of Giles County High School. Mr. Surles was a member of Cool Springs Church of Christ in Pulaski and faithfully attended West End Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Trula Farmer Pilkinton Surles of Columbia; a son, Edward Todd (Joan) Surles of Montgomery, Alabama; step-daughter, Crea Pilkinton (Alan) Sielbeck of Brentwood; two sisters, Vivian (Roger) Warren of Columbia, Norma Surles of Pulaski; three brothers, Buford (Beverly) Surles of Hendersonville, James (Barbara) Surles of Lawrenceburg, Carl (Becky) Surles of McMinnville; five grandchildren, Rachel Pilkinton (John) Stovall of Franklin, Jesse (Amanda) Pilkinton of College Grove, Savannah Sielbeck, Alison Sielbeck and Bate Sielbeck all of Brentwood; four great-grandchildren, Jack and Abby Stovall, Will and Caroline Pilkinton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lee Roy Surles, Jr., Grady Surles, Sam Surles, Thomas "Bud" Surles; and a step-son, Jesse Alison Pilkinton. Pallbearers will be Larry Surles, Jimmy Surles, Charles Surles, Wayne Surles, David Jackson, Mike Marks, Mark Million and Tom Hardin. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Rogers, Clyde Ables, Jimmy Hosay and members of the Berean Sunday School Class at West End Baptist Church.
