Mr. Leon Enlo Ivey, 74, retired teacher with Maury County Board of Education and resident of Merlin Court, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Williamsport Cemetery with Rev. Donna Higginbotham officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Decaturville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Haywood Ivey and Vannie Cole Ivey. Mr. Ivey was a 1957 graduate of Central High School in Savannah, Tennessee; and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry in 1962 from Tennessee Tech and his Masters Plus 45 in 1971 from Georgia State University. His career began in Hickman County where he taught three years and then one year at Hampshire High School. Mr. Ivey dedicated twenty-two years service in the chemistry and math departments at Columbia Central High School prior to his retirement. He had enjoyed farming and fishing in the past several years. He was a very active member of Williamsport United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife whom he married March 14, 1964, Susan Kinzer Ivey of Columbia; one daughter, Melissa (Brian) Bassham of Columbia; two sons, Eric (Patsy) Ivey of Columbia; Stephen (Sumali) Ivey of Murfreesboro; one sister, Edna (Paul) Duke of Franklin; one brother, Philip (Katherine) Ivey of Nashville; six grandchildren, Mariah Ivey, Rachel Ivey, James Ivey, Cam Ivey, Lucy Bassham, Alaina Ivey; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Eric Ivey, Stephen Ivey, Brian Bassham, Cam Ivey, James Ivey, Max Davis, Jeff Lancaster, and Mark Benderman.
