View Funeral WebcastView Video Tribute Mrs. Lera Frances Slaughter Ward Chapman, 85, homemaker and resident of Hohenwald, died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Lewis County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Roberts and Pastor David Grimes officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Buck Slaughter and Hattie Scott Slaughter. She was married to George Chapman who preceded her in death on March 4, 1996. Mrs. Chapman enjoyed sewing and quilting. She attended First Freewill Baptist Church in Columbia for several years. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Dean Prentice and Deborah Jewell Riley, both of Hohenwald; one son, Ernie Kenneth Ward of Hohenwald; fourteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter, Rethia Fay Ward Burns Reinhold; son, John Junior Ward; grandson, Jeff Burns; two great grandchildren, James Alexander Gilreath, III and Joseph Harold Gilreath; five sisters, Gean, Fannie Lou, Maybelle, Lucille, Margie; and five brothers, Cleveland, Alfred, Lester, Buford, and Larry. Pallbearers will be Tony Burns, Chris Riley, Zack Ward, Kenneth Ward, David Slaughter, and Danny Slaughter.
