Lester Herbert Bennett, 83, retired employee of Union Carbide and resident of Seventh Avenue, died Friday, February 26, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Monday from 11:00 A. M. - 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Herbert Bennett and Beulah Pruitt Bennett. He was married to Donna Faye Westmoreland Bennett who preceded him in death August 24, 2008. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army. Very loved by his family, Mr. Bennett was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Always one to stay busy, he enjoyed piddling around his house. Survivors include his brother, Melvin (Carolyn) Bennett of Columbia; sisters, Christine Poe and Pauline (Dorris) Watson, both of Columbia; children, Kathy Dyer of Lebanon, Teresa Moss, Johnny Fautt, and Angie Fautt, all of Columbia; grandchildren, Mitch Dyer, Chase Mataruga, B. J. Moss, Cody Moss, Dillon Moss, Cammie Moss, Destiney Vincent; great grandchildren, Chynna Dyer, Myah Dyer, Damon Dyer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elden Bennett and Chester Bennett. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
