Lewis Anderson Hann, Sr., 93, retired from Union Carbide Corporation where he worked as a millwright in the maintenance department, died Saturday, February 14, 2015 at his residence on Zion Road. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Joe Macer officiating. Burial will follow in Morrow Cemetery with military honors at graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. Born in Hickman County, he was the son of the late Ellis Hann and Mary McGill Hann. He attended schools in Hickman County and was a long-time member of South Point Church of Christ. Mr. Hann served in the U. S. Army during World War II, attached to the 2nd Armored Division. His unit engaged in battles in North Africa, Sicily, and landed on Normandy Beach, and later saw action in the Battle of the Bulge under command of General George S. Patton. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 for over 60 years. He engaged in farming for a number of years and enjoyed camping. Survivors include his wife, Ella Jane Blocker Hann; sons, Lewis A. Hann, Jr. and Larry Hann, both of Columbia; grandchildren, Teresa Hann, Travis Hann, and Jennah (Kyle) Knight; great-grandchildren, Brian Hann, Josh Hann, and Jacob Hann. He was preceded in death by sisters, Dessie Baker, Clara Morrow, and Mary Brooks; and brothers, John Hann, Bill Hann, Thomas Hann, and Walter Hann. Active pallbearers include Brian Hann, Terry Hann, Travis Hann, Glenn Earl Johnson, James Patterson, Kevin Mayberry, Glenn Mash, Jr., and Thomas Runions. Honorary pallbearers are Union Carbide Corporation Retirees, members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the congregation of South Point Church of Christ.
