Linda Sue Jones

Linda Sue Barber Jones, 93, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

She was born on January 21, 1933, in Pleasantville, Tennessee, to the late Omar Z. Barber and the late Nannie Sue Weatherspoon Barber. Sue was united in marriage to Ewell Jasper Jones on April 19, 1952, and he preceded her in death on April 24, 2002. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1951.

Sue was a longtime employee of Maury Regional Hospital, where she first worked in the Business Office from 1952 until 1956. She returned to Maury Regional Hospital after rearing her children in 1969 and served as the Staffing Coordinator of Nursing Services until her retirement in 1997.

She was a faithful member of West 7th Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, flower gardening, and, most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Delores Wherry (Ron) of Rockwall, TX, Karen Martin and the late Doug Martin of Lewisburg, and Ewell Mark Jones (Patricia Dianne) of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Brian Wherry (Cheryl L.), Shannon Wherry, Stephen Wherry (Katelyn Pankratz, fiancée), Beth Martin Hanson, Mary Leslie Martin Scoggins (Levi), Crossie Christina Jones, and Hannah Sue Jones (Josh Gordon, fiancé); 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Ewell Jasper Jones, Linda was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Doug Martin, and her siblings, Estelle Hampton, J.T. Barber, Billy Barber, Annie Lee Whitwell, Mary Austin Rushton, Esther Johnston, Lucille Reeves, and Clara French.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for all the kind words, prayers, and expressions of love shown during this time. Special appreciation is given to Sue’s nurses for their loving care, and to her very dear friend, Kay Spears, for her kindness and friendship.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jerry Barber and Randy Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, and from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Sewing Circle at West 7th Street Church of Christ, 405 West 7th Street, Columbia, TN 38401.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Wherry, Gaige Wherry, Carter Wherry, Wesley Hanson, Timothy Hanson, and Seth Vines. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.
