View Funeral Webcast Lloyd A. West, 86, retired professional photographer and resident of West Seventh Street, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at NHC Franklin. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan and Jeremy Butt officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Marshall County native was the son of the late Dewey West and Selma Clift West. He was in the U. S. Navy during World War II and served two tours of duty in the Pacific. After the War, he studied photography for four years. He was employed by Robert's Studio in Pulaski. Mr. West relocated to Columbia in 1955 where he owned and operated L. A. West, Photographic Studios for the next twenty-eight years. He was the official photographer for the Maury County Horseman Association; and before his retirement, he was photographing third generation weddings. Mr. West was also a dedicated gardener and coin collector. Mr. West was a member of Graymere Church of Christ and had taught Sunday School for several years. He was active in numerous civic and community affairs before becoming partially impaired by a stroke in 1986. He was a past member of the Columbia Civitan Club, where he held numerous offices and a member of Maury County Chamber of Commerce, now Maury Alliance. He was the District Relations Chairman for Boy Scouts of America, President of Maury County Chapter of Muscular Dystrophy Association of America; and President of the Maury County Chapter of Arthritis Association. He was also a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Elnora Woodard West of Columbia; two daughters, Sherry (Charles) Cloud of Nashville; Lisa West of Palm Springs, California; one sister, Gennelle Dale of Montgomery, Alabama; two grandchildren, Jay Cloud and John Cloud; two great grandchildren, Emma Cloud and Avery Cloud; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Nicky West; two brothers, Willard Maylon West and Riland West; and one sister, Mildred West Barron. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Cloud, John Cloud, Dr. John Mark Woodard, Scott Woodard, Mike Rogers, Phillip Rogers, W. R. Barron, Charlie Cloud, Hollis Taylor, David West, Dr. Maylon West, members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19, the staff of NHC Franklin, Sharon Jones, Marita Washington, Johnathan Potts, and Dr. Jason M. Evans of Vanderbilt Medical Center.
