Lossie Johns Culberson

Mrs. Lossie Mae Jones Johns Culberson, 91, resident of Denham Avenue, died Monday, November 16, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend John O. Martin and Reverend DeWayne Crumley officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 -8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born April 20, 1924 in Franklin County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Henry Daniel Jones and Margaret Virginia Garvin Jones. On September 14, 1940 she married Porter B. Johns, Jr. who preceded her in death March 12, 2001. She was a homemaker and well known for cooking the best ribs. She always had a smile on her face and enjoyed sewing, embroidering, and crafts. Mrs. Culberson was a member of New Life Baptist Church and attended Cross Bridges Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Fowler Culberson whom she married November 15, 2008; sister, Gladys (Rev. John O.) Martin of Theta; brother, Athen Martin (Shirley) Jones, Sr. of Hohenwald; step-children, Donna Faye (Bill) Cosey, Floyd (Theresa) Culberson, Joyce Crafton, Teresa Culberson, Kim (Penny) Culberson, Michael (Betty) Culberson, and Ricky Culberson; special step-great granddaughter, Cheyenne Pilgrim; several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Flora Mae Dawson; brothers, Henry Virgil Jones, Sr. and Oscar Lee Jones. Active pallbearers will be Michael Culberson, Bill Cosey, J.D. Jones, Jerry Jones, Jimmy Ray Culberson, Larry Johns, and Johnny Johns.
