View Video Tribute Lieutenant Colonel William Edward "Eddie" Cook, 67, retired from the Tennessee Army National Guard, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at his residence on Leiper's Creek Road. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Kenny Anderson officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 Honors Unit. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late George Edward Cook and Polly Wakefield Cook. He was a 1962 graduate of Columbia Central High School and Middle Tennessee State University. He was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church. In 1962, he joined the Tennessee Army National Guard and was commissioned an officer in 1968. His military career included tours of duty in Canada, Germany, the Combined Forces Command in Korea, and Jungle Warfare Training in Ft. Sherman, Panama. He served as Battalion Commander of the 473rd Support Battalion; was a member of the Tennessee Marijuana Eradication Task Force, and a graduate of Air Assault and Airborne Training schools. LTC Cook recently retired as Inspector of Combat Vehicles for the U. S. Department of Defense. His numerous decorations and citations include the Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Tennessee National Guard Commendation Ribbon. During his leisure time, he enjoyed restoration of MOPAR cars and attending NHRA events. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Wallace Cook, whom he married November 24, 1967; daughters, Molly Abner of Fairview and Anna Cook of Columbia; and son, Eric Cook of Columbia.
