Lucile Hoffman "Toots" Crowder

Lucile Hoffman "Toots" Crowder, 82, long-time resident of Oakdale Drive, died Friday, August 10, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tony Brown officiating. The family will visit with friends at graveside. Born and reared in Macon County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Charlie A. Hoffman and Bessie Twitty Hoffman. She was a 1948 graduate of Tuskegee High School in Tuskegee, Alabama and attended Auburn University. She married William Haggard "Bill" Crowder, Jr. August 29, 1949. They were married for sixty years until his death June 16, 2010. Mrs. Crowder served as assistant librarian at the Maury County Public Library from 1965 to 1995 and tutored Literacy Classes at Columbia State Community College for several years. She was an avid bridge player, loved to read and discuss politics with friends. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and also attended St. Catherine Catholic Church for a number of years. Survivors include her children, Cile Hoffman Crowder of Nashville and William George "Bill" (Ann) Crowder of Senoia, Georgia; brother-in-law, Wilson Crowder of Mobile, Alabama; cousins, Mary George Cook and Julie George Highsmith of Columbia, Beth George and Kay George Eysoldt of Cincinati, Ohio; aunts, Ellen Crowder and Edna Crowder of Lawrenceburg; uncle, Dr. C. D. George of Columbia; several other cousins. She was preceded in death by an aunt, Lucille Milam. Honorary pallbearers include Peter Hudson, Page Chamberlain, Bob Sweeney, Gary C. Ledbetter, and Chip Taylor. The family suggests memorials to Maury County Public Library, 211 West 8th Street, Columbia 38401. Notes of condolence may be extended at oakesandnichols.com.
