View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Mrs. Mamie Horne Norman, 80, former longtime resident of Crestland Drive, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Charles R. Norman, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late George Anderson Horne, Sr. and Mary Barbee Horne. On April 3, 1953 she married Charles Robert Norman, Sr. who preceded her in death October 28, 2003. During her younger years, she was a telephone operator for BellSouth in Columbia. She and Mr. Norman moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she worked as a lab tech at Broward General Hospital for several years before returning to Columbia. A very devout Christian lady, Mrs. Norman was a member of Maury Hills Church of Christ. She always put the Lord first in her life and encouraged others through prayer groups and Bible study. Her children and grandchildren brought her much joy in life. Survivors include her son, Charlie (Sharon) Norman of Columbia; daughters, Vickie Edge of Columbia and Velvet Hopwood of Pulaski; sister, Effie Lovett; brother, George (Dot) Horne, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Anna (Rick) Daniels, Linda (Max) Westmoreland, Treva Horne, and Juanita Horne; grandchildren, Tiffany Hopwood, Nicole Hopwood, Chad (Nicole) Hopwood, Danial (Erin) Norman, David (Veronica) Norman, Dustin (Liz) Norman, and Drew Norman; and great grandchildren, Layla Hopwood, Caroline Norman, Galilea Norman, and Brooklyn Norman. She was preceded in death by one sister Arlene Ford and three brothers Jimmy Horne, Ernest Horne, and William Horne. Pallbearers will be Danial Norman, David Norman, Dustin Norman, Drew Norman, Chad Hopwood, Jerrel Lovett, David Lovett, and Jason Lovett. The family would like to express a special thank you to Charles & Tina Tanner, Harry & Regina Symlar, and NHC Columbia staff.
