View Video TributeMargaret Johnson Beard, 77, retired employee of Maury Regional Medical Center and resident of Santa Fe, died Monday, July 15, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 12:00 noon at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Bowers and Rev. Earl Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. James Gardner officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Gideons International, P. O. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late T. Earl Johnson and Adele Sowell Johnson. On July 30, 1955, she married James B. Beard who preceded her in death on February 27, 1992. She was a 1954 graduate of Santa Fe High School where she was a member of the basketball team. In 1997 Mrs. Beard retired as unit secretary from Maury Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed reading, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, playing with her great grandchildren, and watching NCIS. She was a member of Goshen United Methodist Church and loved singing with the Family & Friends Choir. Survivors include her daughters, Shela (Paul) Carpenter of Pulaski; Donna (Rick) Smith of Columbia; Kim (Randy) Gardner of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Shelly (Marshall) Kinslow of Santa Fe; Sheryl Matthews of Pulaski; David (Cherica) Smith of San Diego, California; Lauren (Josh) Marshall of Columbia; and James Alex Gardner of Santa Fe; Mary Margaret Smith of Columbia; step grandchildren, Jonathon Carpenter of Columbia; Rusty (Crystal) Carpenter of Pulaski; Jamie (Tony) Martin of Lawrenceburg; great grandchildren, Chelsea Matthews, Preston Matthews, Eli Kinslow, Zoe Kinslow, Jeremiah Smith, Mila Smith, Johnson Marshall, James Marshall, and expected in September Paige Gene Marshall and Morgan Steelee Matthews; step great grandchildren, Ronni Carpenter, Journi Carpenter, Abby Carpenter, Tommy Carpenter, Saylee Marshall, Linda Gail Fogg, Daniel Martin, Abram Martin, Canon Martin; sisters, Marilyn (Don) Stevens of Baileyville, Illinois; Martha Hay of Santa Fe; and brothers, Claude (Mildred) Johnson of Nashville; Miles (Betty) Johnson of Spring Hill; Karl (Beverly) Johnson of Decatur, Alabama; her only surviving first cousin, Jimmy Sowell of Santa Fe; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, Thomas Eugene Johnson and brother-in-law, Mark Hay. Active pallbearers will be David Smith, Alex Gardner, Josh Marshall, Marshall Kinslow, Preston Matthews, Jonathon Carpenter, Rusty Carpenter, Steve Jones, and Brian Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Arbie & Jean Ford, Brother Jack Taylor, Louise Gardner, Jean Young, Margaret Brady, members of Goshen United Methodist Church, and 1954 Class of Santa Fe High School.
