Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Byrd Black, 88, longtime resident of Carol Drive, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Signature Health Care. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Wendell Jump officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 5 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A native of Eagle Creek in Benton County, she was the daughter of the late James Byrd and Martha Larkin Byrd. She was a graduate of Camden City School and married Charles Edward Black who preceded her in death in 1962. She loved Kentucky basketball. Mrs. Black was retired from General Electric Corporation and had worked in Oak Ridge on the Manhattan Project during WWII. She was a member of Northview Church of Christ. Survivors include her son, Charles E. (Kay) Black of Lewisburg; daughters, Gail Black and Vickey Carol Black both of Columbia; grandson, George Christopher Davis; granddaughters, Elizabeth Davis and Charley Black; and great-grandson, Finnagan Black. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Black Rivera.
