Marguerite Underwood Campbell

Marguerite Underwood Campbell, 96, resident of Oakwood Drive, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015. A memorial service will be celebrated Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at West End Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Elsey and Rev. Mike Dawson officiating. Inurnment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Southwest Middle Tennessee Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 1426 North Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464 or CBN Center, Water Well Project or Orphans Promise Project, 977 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, VA 23463. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born October 31, 1918 in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late J. J. Underwood, Sr. and Annie Lou Wantland Underwood. On May 17, 1947, she married Orlee "Doc" Campbell who preceded her in death on March 13, 1993. Mrs. Campbell was the last surviving member of her 1936 graduating class of Columbia Central High School. She attended Columbia Business College. Later in life she acquired her Realtors license and worked alongside her husband selling real estate. She was a member of West End Baptist Church; and her loves in this life included her walk with her Lord, studying scripture, teaching Sunday School classes at First Baptist Church and West End Baptist Church. She taught her most recent Sunday School class in spring of 2014. Other interests included her family, gardening and the Republican agenda. Survivors include her daughter, Harriet Campbell of Columbia; sister, Anne Underwood Davis of Farragut, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Fay Campbell of Birchwood, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, J. J. Underwood, Jr. and S. W. Underwood. The family would like to express a special thank you to her nieces Gaynor (Bill) Perdue of Columbia; Katie Davis Greene of Farragut; and nephew, Roy Turner.
