Mrs. Marie Hackney Frakes, 94, formerly of Rolling Fields Circle, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at The Bridge of Columbia where she had made her home for the past two years. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Houston Parks and Rev. Melinda Britt officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. in the church atrium. Oakes & Nichols is assisting the family with arrangements. The family suggests memorials to Hospice Compassus, 1412 Trotwood Avenue, Suite 5, Columbia, TN 38401 or Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church, 222 West 7th St., Columbia, TN 38401. The Maury County native was the only child of the late Neelley Bennett Hackney and Annie Sowell Hackney and was a 1938 graduate of Central High School. On December 23, 1939 she married Ewing Henry "Son" Frakes, Jr. who preceded her in death October 30, 2008. Marie delighted in the large Frakes family that she married into. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed traveling with her husband. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed community activities and loved flower gardening. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Martha (Stuart "Butch") Schulz of Columbia; son, Neel Frakes of Columbia; grandchildren, Stuart (Terri) Schulz, Matt (Ann Marie) Schulz both of Nashville, Sally Schulz (Jason) Brown of Kingston, Jason (Suzanne) Frakes of Murfreesboro; great grandchildren, John Schulz, Maria Schulz, Chloe Frakes, Austin Frakes, Neelley Brown, Fisher Brown; sisters-in-law, Margaret Alice Lacy of Atlanta, Georgia and Frances Beeland Frakes of Greenville, Alabama; and beloved nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will include Pam Frakes, Joanne Cannata, Rufus Ross, Billy West, Bob Sweeney, Carolyn Lofton, Linda Walter, Beth Phillips and James Adkisson. The family would like to express their gratitude to all those who cared so lovingly for Marie.
