View Funeral WebcastMrs. Marie Pierce Herr, 74, retired dental hygienist and resident of Crest Street, died Friday, December 18, 2009 at NHC Hillview. A Funeral Mass will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Rev. Davis Chackaleckel officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols, concluding with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Catherine Catholic Church, 3019 Cayce Lane, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Tiptonville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Ernie Pierce and Maggie Michalscheck Pierce. She was a graduate of Lake County High School and the University of Tennessee at Memphis. Mrs. Herr gave over 3000 hours as a volunteer for the Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, was a communicant of St. Catherine Catholic Church, and loved reading and crocheting. She was married June 8, 1957 to George Albert Herr, Sr. Their 39 year marriage ended with his death January 18, 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Paula (Cliff) Boand of Culleoka; sons, Carl Herr of Columbia and George A. (Joyce) Herr, Jr. of Eagle River, Alaska; sister, Elaine (Bobby) Landrum of Maumelle, Arkansas; brothers, Jerry (Peggy) Pierce of Union City and Ernie L. (Shirley) Pierce of Tiptonville; grandchildren, Jason Herr, Marie McBride, Joshua Herr, Jonny Herr, Joey Herr, and Jake Herr; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Bill Reischman, Billy White, Ken Grappin, Robbie Daniels, Johnny Daniels, and Keith Hulme.
