Marie Grooms Seagraves, 81, retired thirty-four year employee of Columbia Central High School Cafeteria and resident of Dalton Street, died Monday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. William Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 1864, Columbia 38402. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Seagraves, whom she married March 11, 1956; daughters, Wanda Seagraves and Cheryl (Roger "Doc") Dale of Columbia; sons, Charles "Amos" (Reba) McCoy and Ricky (Leta) Seagraves of Columbia, Ronnie (Barbara) Seagraves of Lewisburg, Billy (Connie) Seagraves of Columbia, and Terry Seagraves of Duck River; grandchildren, Jeremy (Tammy) McCoy, Jennifer (Ray) Prince, Brooke Seagraves, Cassie Seagraves, Dakota Seagraves, Christi (Freddie) Smith, John Walton, Cindy (John) Yates, Joshua (Megan) Lancaster, Tim Warren, and Emily (Nate) Luttrell; eleven great-grandchildren; special cats, Butterball and Callie. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Buddy McCoy in 1952; grandson, Adam Seagraves; brothers, James Grooms, Russell Grooms, William "Red" Grooms, and Alton Grooms. Active pallbearers are Jeremy McCoy, Freddie Smith, Danny Grooms, Roy Wayne Grooms, Steve Kennedy, and Roger Lancaster. Past and present employees of Central High School Cafeteria will serve as honorary pallbearers.
