Marie Moore Whitehead

Marie Moore Whitehead, 85, former resident of Sheddan Drive, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at NHC Hillview. Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg with David D. Davidson officiating.The family will visit with friends at the graveside. Notes of sympathy may be extended at oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Doyle Moore and Lena McCandless Moore. A 1947 graduate of Columbia Central High School, she worked for a number of years at Commerce Union Bank. She married Kenneth Boyd Whitehead April 5, 1952. Their 46-year marriage ended with his death August 13, 1998. After rearing her four sons, she served as a teacher's assistant at McDowell and Baker elementary schools for several years. Mrs. Whitehead was a member of West 7th Street Church of Christ. A wonderful, dedicated, loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her sons, Joe (Beth Hill) Whitehead of Brentwood, Jim Whitehead, Tim Whitehead, both of Columbia; grandchildren, Mary Lauren (Brandon) Pfieffer, Jack (Kyli) Whitehead, and John Whitehead. Also surviving are her sisters, Malvena Sweeney of Lewisburg, Jewell Lowery and Hazel Edwards, both of Hendersonville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Boyd Whitehead, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Beard Whitehead. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.
