Marshall E. Simmons, 93, retired roofer and resident of Brannon Court, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. The Maury County native was the son of the late Marshall O. Simmons and Mary Blocker Simmons. Mr. Simmons served in the U. S. Army during World War II and received the World War II Victory medal, American Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Collegevue Church of Christ. He was affectionately known as "Grandirty" by his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife whom he married October 6, 1945, Gladys McCrary Simmons of Columbia; son, Tony (Anita) Simmons of Columbia; daughters, Wanda Faye (John) Burdell of Prospect; Sara Inez (Stan) Caldwell of Rayfort, NC; Patricia Ann Jett of Spring Hill; Doris Lynn Burdell of York, SC; sisters, Josephine Orr of Columbia; Joyce Harrington of Centerville; grandchildren, Mayburn Edward Foster, III, Chad Everett Foster, Dawn Caldwell Willman, Shawn Caldwell, Timothy Caldwell, Crystal Kaye Jett, Candra Michelle McLaughlin, Amanda Francine Boxx, Phillip Simmons, Weston Simmons, Christopher Maag, Robin Maag Belk, Andrea Faye Foster Poarch; thirty-two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
