Mary Jane Gartner Cotham

July 6, 1918 — December 15, 2012

Mary Jane Gartner Cotham, 94, resident of Rolling Fields, died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at NHC Hillview. The family will visit with friends in the Gathering Room at First Presbyterian Church Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by graveside services at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Joe Evans officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church, 801 South High Street, Columbia 38401. Notes of condolence may be extended at oakesandnichols.com. The Columbia native was the daughter of the late Nolan Latta Gartner and Elizabeth Padgett Gartner. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Cotham was also a member of the James K. Polk Memorial Association and Columbia Garden Club for many years. Survivors include her daughter, Jane (Robert Lee Williams, Jr.) of Columbus, Ohio; son, John T. (Mary Beth) Cotham, Jr. of Columbia; grandchildren, Landon Robert Williams of Atlanta, Georgia, Hart Ryan Williams of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; John Thomas Cotham, III, and Anna Elizabeth Cotham of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Cotham, Sr., a sister, and three brothers. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.
