Mary Dawson King, 92, retired from Kroger Company and long-time resident of Scribner Avenue, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Bobby Sampson and Rev. Steve Swango officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. after 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Maury County's "Christmas Card," c/oTHE DAILY HERALD, P. O. Born and reared in the Cross Bridges Community of Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Luther Dawson and Myrtle Smith Dawson and a 1936 graduate of Hampshire High School. She was a long-time member of Highland Church of Christ. She was married April 3, 1937 to Charles M. King who preceded her in death December 20, 1973. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, she is survived by a daughter, Jackie King Bell of Franklin; granddaughters, Betheny Lynn Gregory of Franklin and Kathie (Randy) Higgs of Franklin; great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Max) Fuller of Nashville, Cody Higgs, Dawson Higgs, Mary Kate Higgs, Jacob Gregory, and Jackson Gregory, all of Franklin; a sister, Pauline Dawson "Polly" Lovett of Columbia; nephew, Phil Dawson; special friends, Dorothy Murphy, Lucy Church, Betty Holden, and Charleen Rogers. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Crowe; brothers, Henry Dawson and J. P. Dawson; and son-in-law, Paul T. Bell. Active pallbearers are Randy Higgs, Cody Higgs, Dawson Higgs, Max Fuller, Ray Holden, Jerry Church, Curtis Flowers, and Jackie Potts. Honorary pallbearers include the loving and caring staffs of NHC Hillview, Poplar Estates, Hospice Compassus, Dr. Cummins Couch, and Karen Perry, APRN; her co-workers at Kroger Company, Patsy and Ray Stewart, Ann Neeley, Sean Patterson, Scribner Avenue neighbors, and members of Highland Church of Christ. Special thanks is extended to the girls who lovingly cared for her daily during her illness.
