Mary Huckaby Dodson

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Huckaby Dodson, 88, resident of Brannon Court, died Monday, February 2, 2015 at Signature Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 12:00 noon at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Steve Swango officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist, Church, 109 E. 17th St., Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Loyd Huckaby, Sr. and Emmie White Huckaby and was affectionately known by family and friends as "Eppie". On April 9, 1946 she married John Morris Dodson who preceded her in death March 9, 2001. She lived in Millington, Tennessee many years and worked for the Commissary there. In the mid 1970s she moved back to Columbia. Mrs. Dodson was a member of Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include her brother, Norman Dale "Buddy" (Jean) Huckaby of Murfreesboro; sister-in-law, Elaine Huckaby of Columbia; nephew, Kerry Blaine (Kara) Huckaby of Columbia; niece, Kimberly Huckaby of Murfreesboro; great nephew and niece, Jackson Loyd Huckaby and Linton Blaine Huckaby both of Columbia; special aunt, Harriett White of Columbia; and numerous cousins including her caregivers, Becky and Mike Lynch of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her son, John Robert "Bobby" Dodson on May 13, 1972; brother, Loyd Huckaby, Jr.; and nephew, Alan Dale Huckaby. Active pallbearers will be Mike Lynch, Kerry Huckaby, Howard White, Fred White, Jr., Larry Swift and Mark Curry. The family would like to express a special thank you to Justin and Crystal Curry, Charlotte McCoy, Corene Cravens, Alice Hickman, Dr. Thomas W. Farmer, nurses and staff of Signature Health Care, friends of Colonial Meadows Apartments, and employees of Lynch Equipment for their devoted love and care.
