View Graveside Webcast Mary Josephine Ladd Folger, 84, died Monday, September 5, 2011 following an extended illness. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Williamsport Cemetery where her husband and several generations of Mrs. Folger's family are interred. Rev. Melinda Britt will officiate. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 1864, Columbia 38402. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 16, 1927, in the Williamsport Community, she was the daughter of the late Emery and Josephine Kinzer Ladd. She attended Woodrow School and was a 1945 graduate of Columbia Central High School and a 1949 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. After college, she taught high school in Culleoka and Palatka, Florida. On October 2, 1955, she married James Worth Folger, an engineer with the Tennessee Valley Authority in a lovely ceremony at Williamsport Methodist Church where she attended since childhood. Following Mr. Folger's death September 16, 1970, she maintained a warm, welcoming home in Columbia. She devoted herself to rearing her daughters until each graduated from Vanderbilt University. Throughout her life she gave thoughtful care to several elder relatives. Until ill health intervened, Mrs. Folger was active member of First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, James K. Polk Memorial Association, Maury County Chapter, APTA, Maury County Historical Society, and other community organizations. She was also a Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary volunteer for a number of years. Survivors include her daughters, Lora Ladd Folger of Denver, Colorado and Jo Beth Folger (Tom) Anderson of Los Altos, California; grandchildren, James Thomas Folger Anderson and Townsend Ladd Folger Anderson of Los Altos, California; brother-in-law, Albert Knott of Williamsport; nephews, Daniel Knott, David Knott, Gray Folger, Will Folger, Dan Tanner, Steve Tanner, and Joel Tanner; nieces, Caroline Folger Logsdon, Lora Brooks Tanner, and Julie Andrews Claxton. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ladd Knott.
