Mary Hill Haugen

Mary Hill McKay Haugen, 92, longtime resident of Wahella Way, died Monday, December 2, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A private graveside service will be held at Polk Memorial Gardens with Doug Murphy officiating. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. The family suggests memorials to Columbia Central High School Library, 921 Lion Parkway, Columbia, Tennessee 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of the Beech Grove Community in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Robert M. McKay, Sr. and Anne Hill Cox McKay. On December 26, 1953, she married James A. Haugen who preceded her in death on December 16, 2008. She was a 1940 graduate of Columbia Central High School and graduated from David Lipscomb College. She was a member of West Seventh Street Church of Christ and James K. Polk Auxiliary. Survivors include her daughter, Anne Haugen (Dan) Batey of Williamsport; two grandchildren, Laura Hill Batey of New York City, New York and William Ridings Batey of Knoxville; one sister, Peggy (Doug) Murphy of Florence, Alabama; and one brother, Robert M. "Bob" McKay, Jr. of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her son, Theodore Martin "Ted" Haugen and one brother, Cameron McKay.
