View Funeral WebcastMrs. Mary Alyce Dodson Ring, 96, long-time resident of Dodson Drive and retired Columbia businesswoman, died Monday, February 8, 2010 at Life Care of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Perry County native was the daughter of the late Clabe Birdman Dodson and Jessie Craig Dodson. She moved to Maury County with her family as a young child and resided on Dodson Drive for over 80 years until she became a resident of The Bridge in 2002. She attended Maury County schools and was a graduate of Columbia Business College. She married Gene Ring in 1937. Their 53 year marriage ended with his death August 22, 1990. She worked in the Maury County Trustee's office for a number of years and later was secretary for the Tennessee Department of Juvenile Probation. Mrs. Ring was a life-long member of West 7th Street Church of Christ and the Virginia K. Parks Sunday School Class. Active in civic and community affairs, she organized and conducted the first "Mother's March" for the March of Dimes, canvassing every home in Maury County.She was a charter member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization in 1948, member of the Democratic Women's Club and American Association of Retired Persons. Survivors include several cousins; special friends, Charlie Ann Dugger and Cindy Netherland; and loyal servant and friend, Ricky Campbell. She was preceded in death by a brother, James H. Dodson in 1932. Firends will serve as pallbearers.
