Mary Ruth Kelley “MawMaw” Grooms, 90, resident of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Life Care Center of Columbia.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Mike Gillock officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Saturday, December 20, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.
Born May 5, 1935 in Maury County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Edd Carless Kelley and the late Mattie Elise Goodwin Kelley. Mrs. Grooms was married to Dudley Grooms, who preceded her in death on November 11, 1960. She retired from Weather Tamer, where she worked for 18 years, then worked at Maury Regional for 7 years. Mrs. Grooms loved flowers, red birds, and her cats, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Larry Wayne (Cindy) Grooms; grandchildren, Sara Beth (Wayne) Lindsey, Rebecca Grooms, Kami (Chase) Dunnavant, Kerrie (Johnny) Griffin; great-grandchildren, Myla Lindsey, Jackson Lindsey, Emery Lindsey, Bentley Ring, William Dunnavant, Shelby Dunnavant, and Stella Griffin; sister, Linda Sue Warren; brother, Carl Edward Kelley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry William Grooms; sister, Sara Elizabeth Massey, and Shirley Fay Ingram; and brothers, James Roy Flynt, James Donald Kelley, and Tommy Joe Kelley.
Active pallbearers will be Robbie Ingram, Rickey Kelley, Mike Flynt, Jeremy Kelley, Kenny Lovell, and Donny Lovell.
