Mary Porter Thomas Seale, 91, retired Columbia businesswoman, died Friday, April 20, 2012 at Life Care of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Bigbyville United Methodist Church with Rev. Tony Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the church. The family suggests memorials to Bigbyville United Methodist Church, 3894 Bigbyville Road, Columbia 38401. A descendant of pioneer settlers of Maury County, she was born and reared in the Bigbyville Community and daughter of the late Ernest Davis Thomas and Lillian Porter Perry Thomas. She was a 1937 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended Martin Methodist College in Pulaski. She and her husband, Linwood O. Seale, owned and operated City Motor Company for many years and she served as bookkeeper. Mr. Seale died May 16, 1990. Mrs. Seale was a life-long member of Bigbyville United Methodist Church and faithfully served as church pianist from 1936 to 2011. She also was piano accompanist for Marie Cox Dance Studio for many years. Survivors include a very special niece, Lillian Porter Sheegog (Don) Savage of Franklin; nephews, William Thomas and David Thomas of Columbia; great-nephews, Mark Sheegog (Stephanie) Savage and Andrew Ezell (Laura) Savage; great-great-nieces, Sarah Kate Savage and Savannah Savage; great-great-nephews, William Savage and John Edward Savage. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nora Russell Thomas Sheegog and brothers, Addison Thomas and William Thomas. Serving as pallbearers are John Satterwhite, Buddy Harris, Terry Bailey, Kenny Hanvy, Jack Westmoreland, Troy Briggs, Dave Hall, David Hall, and Douglas McCaig. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.
