View Funeral Webcast Mary Tom Anderson Smith, 89, long-time resident of Transit Avenue, died Saturday, January 15, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Wendell Jump and Thomas Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Hilltown Church of Christ, c/o Ray Connely, 2876 Ernest Hawkins Road, Santa Fe 38482. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Nathan Young Anderson and Ethel Whiteside Anderson. She worked as a seamstress at Publix Manufacturing Company for several years. A doting grandmother, Mrs. Smith enjoyed traveling, was an avid shopper and in earlier years loved to fish. She was a long-time member of Hilltown Church of Christ. She was married January 12, 1943 to William David "Bill" Smith who preceded her in death December 25, 1966. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Ann (Joe) Wade of Columbia; a son, William D. "Buddy" (Virginia) Smith of Columbia; grandchildren, Robin (Shannon) Jones of Columbia, Todd (Kim) Smith of Cross Plains, and Russ (Tonya) Smith of White House; great-grandchildren, Tucker Jones, Kayla Smith, Corey Smith, Miles Smith, McKenzie Smith, and Brianna Smith; sisters-in-law, Louise Anderson of Columbia and Joann Anderson of Enterprise; brother-in-law, Dick Baker of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Edna Dunn, Agnes Baker, and Juanita Riley and brothers, Edgbert Anderson and Simpson Anderson. Active pallbearers are Tracy Satterfield, Shannon Jones, Todd Smith, Russ Smith, Dean Pratt, and Ken Williams. Honorary pallbearers include employees of Columbia Fire Equipment, congregation of Hilltown Church of Christ, Dr. Gibran Naddy, and staff of Life Care of Columbia.
