Mary Jane Scott Sparkman, 66, a lifelong resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with David Morris officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born January 1, 1960, in Columbia, Mary was the daughter of the late William Thomas Scott and the late Virgie McCanless Scott. On August 11, 2007, she married David Sparkman, with whom she shared nearly 19 wonderful years of marriage.

Mary worked for many years as a certified nursing assistant at Life Care Center of Columbia. Later, she and her husband owned and operated Johnny’s Market. She enjoyed watching the television show Home Improvement, but above all, she cherished spending time with her family. Mary will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness and devotion touched all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, David Sparkman, she is survived by her daughter, Kristy (Devin) Dean; son, Thomas Scott; grandchildren, Savannah (Tyler) Folsom, Morgan Dean, Hayden Scott, and Lacey Conner; and great-grandchildren, Makennah Folsom, Adeline Folsom, Dean Conner, and Dileo Conner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William Thomas Scott Jr., Charles Wayne Scott, and James Novel Scott.
