Mary Smith Street

Mary Elizabeth Smith Street, 89, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 at NHC Columbia where she had made her home for the past three years. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to NHC Columbia, 101 Walnut Lane, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late John Boge Smith and Rosie Darnell Pruitt Smith. She was married to Walter Lee Street who preceded her in death in 1990. Retired from the Laundry Department of Goose Creek Inn, Mrs. Street was a hard-working woman who had worked as many as four jobs in one day to provide for her six children. She loved writing, art and working puzzles. She enjoyed telling her children and grandchildren stories of her Indian heritage. Friends remember Mrs. Street for her easy smile, her shining personality, and her joyous laughter. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include daughters, Janie (Don) Vandiver of Columbia; Nancy (Rob) Krammer of Buffalo, New York; sons, Larry Lee Street of Columbia; Randy Paul (Melanie Gaye) Street, Ricky Walter Street, and Wayne (Angie) Street, all of Mt. Pleasant; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; special nephew, Dennis "PeeWee" Pruitt; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sons, David Street and Perry Street; great grandchild, Billy Bob Hickman; and twin siblings, Chester Pruitt and Hester Pruitt. Active pallbearers are Donnie Vandiver, Gene Street, Michael Street, Wayne Lee Street, John Logan Neal, and PeeWee Pruitt. Honorary pallbearers will include Don Vandiver, Dale Vandiver, Preston Crigger, Dr. Charles Ball & staff, special friend Dorothy Janes, Bobby Joe Hickman, Jr., Bobby Joe Hickman, Sr., Danny Ray Hickman, Jayden Street, and Gavin Street.
